Welcome to this lesson on Hands Coordination.
Over the course of teaching through video lessons, I've gotten thousands of emails. The number one problem people have is getting their right hand and left hand to play together.
I had the same problem when I started out It was demoralizing. But, after a lot of trial and error, I found a way to beat it. It's a 3 step 4-step process, and it works like a charm.
Just promise me you'll watch the video and follow ALL the steps. Skipping even one of the steps could leave you confused and frustrated.
First thing, before you start the video, download the Hands Together Ultimate Goal Sheet here: HT Domination Goal Sheet PDF

Playing Hands Together: Step by Step
Step 1. Make sure you can play hands separate SOLID. Not ok. Not “pretty good sometimes.” Solid.
Step 2. Tap the rhythm of both hands together on your leg. If you can't do both hands together yet, start hands separate, then move to hands together.
Step 3. Use the “Added Note Strategy” and gradually add note after note until you hit a tough spot. Then, concentrate on that 4 to 5 note “tough spot” and really drill it in. Reeeeally slowly.
Step 4. Use the Metronome Ramp-Up Strategy to gradually accelerate up to full speed. Then, repeat steps 1-4 daily until the exercise is complete.
Hands Coordination in a Real Song:
Ok, now I'm going to demo how I'd learn an actual song using the exact same techniques. You can apply the 4-step method to any song you're learning.
Action Step:
Time to take action! Take a song you're struggling to get hands together and follow the steps.
Follow them 100%. I know it's tempting to skip the “slapping your legs” step, but don't do it! Trust me; it'll lead you to knowing the song or exercise a lot more solidly.
Get All 80 Hands Coordination Drills:
This is the “formula” for learning stuff hands together. It's a proven formula that works time and time again.
But, there's more where this came from. In the Hands Together Domination Premium Course, there are 80 exercises, each specifically designed to target a different aspect of hands coordination. And just like the 4-step method I gave you, there's an even more powerful 8-Step Gauntlet Method to hit your exercises from all different angles.
80 exercises seems like a lot, but trust me, once you get a few under your belt, the rest will come MUCH easier. For more info about the full Hands Together Domination course, click here.
But if you don't want to get it, no pressure! Just work these 4 exercises, and try to get them all to Gold Level 🙂
Next lesson's all about sightreading, which is a VERY misunderstood concept. But don't worry; I got a 3-step process that'll have you shredding through music… with consistent practice of course 🙂
See you in the next lesson!
-Zach
Not only were the techniques helpful, but they inspired me to go and to take a serious look at how I was using my practice time.
